Perhaps the biggest thing about religion that bothers me is that I find it very hard to accept things on faith alone. The idea of not questioning a book because the book instructs you not to question is beyond me.
What book you talking about the bible?

Because as catholics we don't think that bible is like set on stone. The bible is only an inspired writting. So you dont have to believe God made the universe in a certain days or that Adam existed.

While I believe in God and loosely affiliated with Catholicism, my beliefs are more along the lines of Pascal's Wager.

Pascal's Wager says something to the effect of, so what if there isn't a God or a heaven or anything else after death, worshipping something that's not there doesn't hurt you, and it doesn't have to hurt other people (we call such people fundamentalists and all religions have them.) However, should there be a God, then not having worshipped anything is worse since you are more likely to end up in someplace akin to Hell, if not Hell itself.

I absolutely despise fundamentalism and people who take the Bible literally. Unless the events in the Bible can be verified by the historical texts of other contemporaries of the Bible writers, I'll take them as nothing more than something to help answer the question of "why?" Science answers the "how?"

With that in mind, I am a Darwinist and a someone whose beliefs resemble Catholicism in some ways, and I do not believe that science in no way conflicts with religion. I do believe that we should always ask God questions, or else we become stagnant and stupid (there is a difference between testing God and questioning God, FYI.) I don't believe that God appreciates stupid people who have the opportunity to educate themselves and do not take advantage of it (of course, that's what makes them stupid in the first place.) Unlike the Roman Catholic Church, I believe you need more than just freedom of the exchange of ideas, but complete freedom of expression. I believe that if you want to understand your own religion, you need to understand the beliefs and religions of people that don't agree with you.

Generally, I believe that believers in God must always strive to further their knowledge in all their endeavors. If God made us in His image (image being metaphorical, not literal), and if God is intelligent, then we too must be intelligent in all that we do.

I'm agnostic why would I follow what someone says he "saw" "heard", most of the bible aint true anyways for other religions I can't really say.
The church is good for one thing and that is to have an oasis where people can go to talk in peace.
And the universe can be like the ending of MIB maybe where'r stuck in an marble rolled around by some giant creature

What if you worship the wrong god and the real god is offended by this? That would be a bummer wouldn't it

I'm agnostic. I believe there is something to life more than what generally accepted science says, but I don't know if it's a god, a living planet where your soul returns to (Gaia theory), or another dimension that is of the mind. I hope there's something, or else death would mean oblivion.
The Gaia theory hasn't got anything to do with "souls". *This article is quite interesting.

The theory is interesting but often misunderstood. I believe many new agers love it (after having twisted it so it includes atleast some mumbo jumbo. It wouldn't be new age worthy without mumbo jumbo).

Yes, I was referring to the bible.

How can you have an entire religion based on one "inspired writing"? So I become inspired one day and write a book about a god and all the crazy things that supposedly happened because of him and people believe it because "this god insipired me to write this" even though it had never been introduced to society previously. Therefore, my justification for believing in this god is based off my own reasoning which I just wrote down.

You can't define a word and use the word in the definitition.

As far as making the universe in days idea; days is simply used as a reference for time for our minds to understand, supposedly. From 2 Pet. 3:8: "But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day." (NIV). Therefore it is conveiveable that both the big bang and creationism are correct.

    pascal was an idiot.

you better pray to the white lab rats that run the earth. you might not see them, but prayer only takes a minute of your time and doesn't hurt you right?
