NFS comparison between Solaris and Linux

Hi

I am having working experience in Solaris..I m a newbie to Linux..

In solaris using "share" command, we can share the directories in "command line".But in Linux accoring to my knowledge,the only way to export the directories is making entry in /etc/exports file.Isnt there no choice to export directories in COMMAND line..


I read that /var/lib/nfs/xtab is initialized by the exportfs -a command. But it is not initialized, when i did.This file is initialized only after mounting the exported directories in the clients side.

is this file simailar to /etc/dfs/sharetab in solaris?

Pls clarify my doubts...

You can make Shell Script and put it in /usr/bin !!

#!/bin/sh

echo "Enter your Share name : ?"
read name

echo $name >> /etc/exports

exportfs -r
