Not sure how many people have seen this, but I chuckled:

Imo, pronouncing it "vuck" doesn't make it any better

It's easier than saying Free Univ, etc. We speak a language of acronyms. :

Ya know, Dutch and German are very similar, and in German v's are pronounced like f's. I'm sure Dutch is the same way.

maybe I just have a lisp -- but to me, a v at the beginning of a word sounds a lot like an f, even in English
