Interesting. I guess that means 2.6 isn't far behind.

2.5 is on the road and 2.4 isn't even stable... that's not the right thing to do if you ask me. I mean it's 2.4.15. 2.2.15 was extremely stable. 2.4.15 has a problem with dirty inodes and it can fsck you whole file system! I think the Linux developpers should stop including new features and releasing as many kernels as possible and getting one out that's stable. I mean, it's a shame, Windows 2000 is more stable thatn 2.4.15! Same thing for Windows XP! Come on, how could we get so low?

ok, it seems that u haven't been paying attention
yes, there are more problems with the 2.4 kernel series than there are problems with the 2.2 kernel series. but the problems are all small bugs and have nothing to do with stability. in fact, recent benchmarks have shown that 2.4 performs better than 2.2 and performs comparably to freeBSD's kernel

Who says they still can't? I don't see why they need to jump to the next major stable line of kernels just because they jump to the next development kernel. While they're working on the first few versions of 2.5, they can make the final version or two of 2.4, concentrating on stability. That's how I would do it if I was in charge of it.
