Red Hat's proposal is both sensible and generous. Giving schools open source software wlll encourage development by students (and teachers), whereas ms just wants to addict the schools to m$, and phase out the donation and phase in long-term contracts. >

The proposed Final Judgment will be in effect for a five year period and may be extended for an additional two-year period if the Court finds that Microsoft has engaged in multiple violations of the proposed Final Judgment.

What the hell is this? Why is it only 5 years ? So after 5 years they can go back to the same pratices that got them in the lawsuit to begin with? This is BS, it's a slap on the wrist. Software changes so quickly in 5 years noone is going to want the software from 5 years ago, and microsoft is going to revert back to their old ways. PAY ME!!
