    hehehe, those ads are great.

More and more I'm happy to see Linux talked about and seen with many different computer users. I've even started to meet people what hate M$ and dont know what the heck they can do about it. :P I'll talk to them...

It's great that Linux is getting all this press, but it doesn't seem to be making a big impact:

Me: "So, the open source method of software development is superior because everybody is free to make improvements, not just a select group of people."
Dad: "That's why Bill Gates is the richest man in the world..."
    <Me explains some more>
Me: "Ever heard of Red Hat?"
    Dad: "No."

So, really, people don't have a clue.

And for the record, I haven't seen a single one of these commercials. Are they airing only in the US? I've seen some of IBM's ads in magazines, though. Namely LinuxJournal...

Honestly, I don't think that it would be in their best interest to release a distro of their own. My biggest reason is that they have several strategic relationships with major Linux vendors (Redhat, Suse, etc). They just have to give them the necessary hardware, sit back, and wait for the vendors to come up with compatible code. It is definitely more cost effective that way.

Compunuts: I submitted the news article successfully for you. Cheers.
    Ah, Thank you.
$400,000 for a mainframe computer? *Dang, that is almost chump change (in the IT business).
One guy bought Cray II computer a year or so ago from ebay with almost 1 million dollars. I mean why buy an old Cray?? I would rather buy this one for use. I think he bought it for historical reason or something and that he needs to have another 4 million dollars to pay for software and maintance to IBM for a year or so. :

Think about it, your own, personal mainframe computer.
If you have 2 GHz personal computer, you've already got a mianframe of 1970s. ;D .

I can see many companies jumping on to that mainframe since Sun Ultra dual would cost you as much. For companies, it's good deal.

It would be very 8) to have that for yourself though...

It makes you wonder if eventually IBM will do away with all of their other Operating Systems and just use Linux.

I was reading an article the other day about this. The IBM guy that was being interviewed indictated that thry were not going to drop AIX, and, in fact, a new release is due out soon. They plan to go ahead with both Linux and AIX, as some things doable in AIX are not doable in Linux. Yet...
