    IBM launches Linux-only mainframe

Itís back to the future at IBM, which on Friday will announce a new deeply discounted mainframe computer designed to push the once-mammoth mathematical machines into the mainstream. At the heart of the new mainframe model is the free Linux operating system, which drives the cost down significantly ó in fact, itís the first-ever mainframe system running Linux exclusively.

    The article is at http://www.msnbc.com/news/693455.asp?cp1=1

( I tried to submit via news submit area but it doesn't seems to work for me )

They've earmarked $1billion for promoting linux, which is nice.

$400,000 for a mainframe computer? Dang, that is almost chump change (in the IT business). Wow. Too bad I don't have that kind of money lying around (even if I did, either my wife or my kids would have picked it up and hid it on me! ). Think about it, your own, personal mainframe computer.
