    Linux Executive Accuses Microsoft

A top executive of Linux operating system distributor Red Hat accused Microsoft Monday of taking ownership of open technology standards in an attempt to frustrate other companies.
Red Hat Chief Technology Officer Michael Tiemann said Microsoft adds "extensions" to critical communications methods that computers use to transmit security information, print, and perform other tasks. Those extensions are proprietary to Microsoft, he said, and despite recent actions Microsoft has not been forthcoming in releasing details of those changes.

MS has been comming down on embeded Linux as well saying it isn't very good. Oddly enough it takes much less resources to run the same type of apps that embeded XP does and requires much less space.

well that is obvioulsly very bad - for memory and CPU makers that is.

Not necessarily -- look at windows app code and linux app code. You will see that there is good code and bad code for each. What is stopping the idiots who churn crap code from churning crap embedded code? And what is saying that the extra RAM and CPU cycles couldnt be put to some good use. God knows these damn MP3 players could be written better or include more features.

The pendulum swings both ways. It just how the engineers at the gadget companies want to do things.

And crap linux code gets more exposure than crap MS code. Other linux geeks can sit aroudn and laugh at/fix the crap linux code... can't really do that with ms code.

Embedded can be a different issue though. The kernel is all that really needs to be open source. If the apps are closed source, then there is no way we can all contribute to correcting any programming errors.
