Thread: mounting an iso?

    mounting an iso?

    If I have iso's of red hat, is there a way of copying them to the hard disk and mounting them, then installing redhat without buring them to a cd. This may seem like an absurd question, but I'd rather do that than mess about sticking a cd rom drive on the thing if its possible.

    Actually, you don't even need to mount them anymore. If you have enough spare hdd space on a partition you arn't going to re-format, you can just place the .iso files there, and use a boot floppy or something to start the install process. (I guess mounting the iso to make the boot floppy would be necessary). The install usually goes a crapload faster that way (;

    Hrmm, I don't think so. I think it needs to be on a linux partition, I'm not positive though...

    Re: mounting an iso?

    when i installed rh 7.1 i read the Red Hat installation guide on and it covered all of those questions

    they probably have a new installation guide for 7.2 on their site so go check it out. they used to have an entire chapter about what media to use for installation with instructions for all of them (including HD install from downloaded iso's)
