Thread: Linux/UNIX version of WS-FTP?

    Linux/UNIX version of WS-FTP?

    Hi all,

I have to use Windows 2000 quite a bit at work and I really like WS-FTP Pro for Windows. Is there a "clone" of it for Linux? I've tried quite a few different ftp clients under Linux and haven't quite found the one for me.....

    Thanks for the help.

What clients have you tried? I generally use gftp but have used igloo-ftp and deadftp in the past and both are great programs.

    Hi,

gftp is your best bet here. I still use ws-ftp when i use a windows client, but i much prefer gftp's look and feel. It comes bundled standard in RH. It is also installed with ximian gnome.

If you are running another type of *nix you can always download and compile from source ( so long as your are running an xserver! ).

You can get it at http://www.gftp.org/

    Hope this helps!!!!

I have to agree, after using ncftp a lot and having used gftp and WS-FTP quite a bit as well, I'd go with ncftp every time. It's not graphical, but it's one heck of an FTP client. Trust me, use it for awhile and you'll never go back to the GUI FTP clients.

Do these GUI FTP clients offer special features? I just do FTP via Midnight Commander. I tried gFTP once, but I did not see anything there that I could not already do in MC.

Not that I've noticed (compared to ncftp, not sure about MC's FTP client) -- they're just GUI.

Check linux.tucows.com but count this as yet another vote for ncftp.
