    Weird Console Text out of nowhere

    I'm guessing one of my apt-get upgrades must've updated one piece of software that's triggering this, but I don't know what's causing it!

    IN=eth0 OUT= MAC=01:00:5e:00:00:01:00:00:77:8f:77:ab:08:00 SRC=55.55.55.5 DST=224.0.0.1 LEN=32 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=1 ID=33285 PROTO=2

    where the SRC=55.55.55.5 is my IP

    It looks like pump, but I'm not sure...anyone know how to fix this?

    I'm not too sure what that is exactly but my firewall (gShield) outputs something very similar to that.....

    Are you using a BSD?

    Looks like iptables output. check your syslog.conf file. Looks like it might be set up to send the log output to the console.

    I would also say that is iptables output

    If you know enough about klogd and your distro's bootscripts, I'd say you should make klogd start up with a loglevel of 4 ('klogd -c 4'). That way all but the most important messages will be logged to a file and not the screen (I was having a similar problem with modprobe being _way_ too verbose for my needs, this fixed it. Not sure if it'll affect iptables though).
