    networking problem between windos xp and linux

    Hello
    I have 2 computers. one is on Windows Xp professional and second one is on Linux. I am using Fedora Core 4 i386 on 64-bit AMD computer. but it is working fine. no problems. My FC4 has 2 ethernet cards. both work with linux. but the problem is when I try to make the network. windows didnot pick up. it says that network cable is unplugged. but i put the ip address and DNS address as well. please tell me how can i solve this problem.

    For Linux.
    1st ethernet card is working on dhcp. it is on attached to the cable modem.
    2nd ethernet card configration is as follow.
    ip address: 192.168.1.1
    subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: Empty
    Primary DNS: 194.168.4.100
    Secondary DNS: 192.168.8.100

    ==============================================

    For windows.
    ip address: 192.168.1.2
    subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.1.1
    Primary DNS: 194.168.4.100
    Secondary DNS: 194.168.8.100

    Are you trying to connect the machines directly to each other without a hub or switch ?

    If so you need to use a crossover network cable.
