How to get started with LaTeX?

Oh no, dont get me started on my rage against WYSIWYG tools..

LyX is not WYSIWYG. It is really a very good program, and I tend to use it more than I use raw LaTeX anymore. Once you have a good handle on the keyboard short cuts, you can simply fly with LyX. Plus, the equation editor and table maker stuff is very nice and easy.

However, for serious LaTeX gurus (which I am not) it may not be as flexible or powerful as raw LaTeX.
