I'M POSTING FROM MY SPARC!!!

After fighting all day with DNS issues, I've finally got my SPARC in and Solaris 8 running! I am psyched! psyched! psyched! Needless to say, CDE is the ugly stepsister of GNOME (what was SUN thinking?). And I almost have enough RAM in this thing to make it bareable. KP I hope you know more about solaris than I do, cause I'm going to start firing away with the questions.

Question one being, are there any good Solaris newbie forums?

CDE doth suck, but you can get gnome from sun.com or ximian from ximian. both will work fine.

I go to http://www.sunhelp.org/ for my newbie help. There is also a forum there, still kinda low traffic, but there are some very smart people there.

Well, I had Solaris 8 on it for about a week, then I broke down and installed SuSE 7.3. I'm using it primarily as a snort box (though I have yet to really tweak snort to make it completely reliable)--but's it been fun so far. I'm thinking of making my company buy it off me and keeping it on the network as a full time IDS if I don't ever get back to working on my Solaris cert.

SunScreen firewalls are absolutly amazing as well, you should look into those....
