Teach Lovechild about FreeBSD

I've been looking FreeBSD' way for a while now. I was wondering:
1) Can I use KDE without any problems
2) Does it run Strike Force and UT (emulation of Linux mybe?)
3) State of GeForce drivers ?
4) this port system or theirs.. is that like gentoo, say ala LFS ?

1) Yes
2) It does, but it's not really good
3) Sucky generic drivers, no native drivers like Linux
4) You want to install mozilla? cd /usr/ports/www/mozilla ; make install clean and mozilla will be downloaded, its dependencies too and it will compile from source. You can upgrade that way too.

crap... the nVidia driver thing will keep me from doing FreeBSD untill I can buy a Radeon or something..

I've been running 4.5 on the desktop and it works pretty well. I've got the same configuration/software as in Linux, and I like it. Couple of things though,

I can't get java support to work in Mozilla, and I can't get Return to Castle Wolfenstein to run.

Hey Gnu Vince, suppose I want to upgrade my Mozilla version. How do I do that?

I don't know. I think you need to get a new ports tree (make update). You could probably ask on bsdvault.net or you could try portupgrade

Nonsense. I use FreeBSD on my desktop and have had better luck with it than Linux. There are two programs I can't get to work on it but otherwise everything works better than in Linux.

You could always use Gentoo which has NVIDIA driver support.

You can also use Debian. Kint who has used FreeBSD on his desktop for over a year now reinstalled Debian yesturday on his box at home. He can't see why he switched to FreeBSD for his desktop.
