Return to Castle Wolfenstein - Voodoo problem

The demo was fine, but in the full game, I get all kinds of bizarre colors on walls and floors and stuff. No matter how I fiddle with the game settings or the config file I get the weird colors. Check out these screenies:

Using a Voodoo 3 2000 AGP, XFree86 4.1.0, Slackware 8.0.

Don't have these problems playing in Winblows.

I'd rather play the game in Linux ... any ideas???

Have you tried disabling 3D acceleration (can the game work like that?) ? I used to get the same type of problem on a 4mb 3D accel card when playing Jedi Knight at high resolutions. This happened on Windows though. I've yet to get a Windows program to work under Linux. All I have is Wine but I don't know how to use it.

Yes, the game will run, but at seconds per frame rather than frames per second. * * *

I don't use Wine. I just install the Linux binary released for the game and then copy the .pak files from Windows to the Linux game directory. Quake III Arena runs awesome this way. RTCW has problems though.

I think that is a problem with the way Voodoo is working with the OpenGL drivers

i have the same video card as u and i have the exact same problem in Unreal Tournament (allthough i only see the weird colors during the intro and in certain places in some levels). Quake3 and Urban Terror don't have this problem though... very weird

but actually i like those colors
gives the game something extra

another thing, RTCW ran slow as hell on my linux box but when i installed it on my win98 partition it ran great

I think it has something to do with the dri / opengl driver .. because this behavior is mentioned as a bug on the dri website somewhere ..

I have a V3, and no problems. I'm also running the old X 3.3.6 server with Glide2/3/Mesa ontop of a X 4.1 install (hey, Pat V. said it would work). Perhaps your problem(s) are DRI related? Of course the only RTCW I've tested has been the demo...

The demo worked fine for me too. I don't recall seeing any of that stuff there. Maybe it was the map though. It seems to be more prevelant in certain maps.

I had that same problem a while back, it turned out I had smoked my mobo !

Hmm, but it works fine in Windoze. I guess I just need to buy a Geforce.
