If anybody's still trying to get Unreal to work here's what I did:

Head to http://www.icculus.org/~chunky/ut/unreal/ and download Chucky's installer. It works well. I couldn't get the settings to work right though so I had to change some of the entries in the UnrealTournament.ini file in my ~/.loki/unreal/System file. Since I can't be sure of my changes and since it's too long to post I'll just email it to you if you email me asking for it. My address is in profile. Maybe one day I'll get off my lazy butt, set up a website, and host it there. Maybe.. Someday...

Okay - here's the fat: You can get a Loki style installer for Unreal and Unreal Gold now. Head here:

I've used the Unreal Gold and I've got to say it works well. You will need to load your saved games from the UT style save menu instead of the original Unreal save menu for the game to work right though. (This will become readily apparent to you once you've played to game).

The vortex2 error can be fixed by making a symlink from from Maps to maps. It's hardcoded into UnrealShare.u, UTMenu.u and UMenu.u (depending on what console you use) to open ..\maps\vortex2.unr instead of just vortex2.unr or ..\Maps\vortex2.unr. Linux is case sensitive (as most linux users know), so this is why it fails.

Id also like to add that someone (you ravage by chance) created a really nice installer and stuff for Unreal. Just need an install of UT, and an original Unreal disc. I have been running that for a month or two now, and I love it.
