Problems Setting up Mail Server

Fedora Core 3

I've been slowly walking through the Chapter 21: http://www.linuxhomenetworking.com/l...n/sendmail.htm

When I get to the area Testing TCP connectivity:
[root@bigboy tmp]# telnet mail.my-site.com 25
Trying mail.my-site.com...
Connected to mail.my-site.com.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 mail.my-site.com ESMTP server ready

helo anothersite.com
250 mail.my-site.com Hello c-24-4-97-110.client.comcast.net [24.4.97.110], pleased to meet you.

All works:

But the next step fails:
MAIL FROM:sender@anothersite.com

With an error of:
MAIL FROM:sender@anothersite.com
500 5.5.1 Command unrecognized: "MAIL.FROM:root@anothersite.com"

Doesn't seem to matter what user I put in there I get the same result.

HTTP access back to my domain from out side works fine.

Everything up to this point appears to work O.K. so I'm assuming I've set up the MX records correctly with my Dynamic Host for DNS services.

Any suggestions?

Sorry people, I just wasn't reading it properly.

MAIL FROM:sender@anothersite.com

:shock: clearly it says "anothersite" and I was using the same domain as mine. Once I changed it to another valid E-mail account it all worked perfectly.

I can send mail out, buit for some reason I can't check mail using Microsoft Outlook from my other commputer, it says it's been interrupted.?

Any suggestions.

Hello,

Check your /etc/mail/relayhosts and add ip of your another machine from where you want to check emails.
