I'm running TurboLinux Server 6.5 on a heavily-used production server, and so far it's outperforming any other out-of-the-box distros I have tried. It's based on RPM, not DEB.

For your workstation, might as well give TurboLinux 7.0. It's been out for a while....

I have tried both the 6.0 version (came free with System Commander 2000) and 7.0. Not bad. RPM based like Kint said. Nice install (actually, I used the text based install. Being able to choose between the gui and text version is nice), went rather smoothly.

If you would like me to send you the 7.0 disks, pm me. Since I fell in love with Slackware, I have a set of 7.0 disks laying around that Ashcrow sent to me.

I toyed with Turbo when I FIRST got into linux. It was *ok* but it seemed really broken. It supports both RPM and slack packs, so there was some packaging confusion with software, and it just seemed to be lacking on some of the software it included.

Honestly, if I wanted a rpm based distro, I would get redhat. Most rpms out there are made for redhat first, then maybe ported to others...

    anywho,
    my $0.02

i got that 6.0 in a wireless linksys pcmcia card box and thought i would try it out, but then i changed me mind.

actually, i think every linux system supports slack packs cuz IIRC they're just tar files that include the binaries
