I strongly advise against booting into the GUI.
If you boot into the console, it is very easy to choose what wm you want at bootup. Just edit ~/.xinitrc, then type startx, and there you go with your wm of choice![]()
Hi all,
I'm running Mandrake 8.1 on one of my machines here at home. *I just upgraded to the latest XFCE. *It works great but I lost XFCE as a choice when logging into Linux. *Now, if I choose 'default', it boots into XFCE. *That's fine and all but I'm afraid if I decide to boot into another window manager, that manager will then become the default and I won't be able to choose XFCE at all. *Do I have you completely confused, yet? *
My question is this. *How can I get XFCE to show up in the list of window managers at bootup?
Thanks for the help!

Actually I had a similar question. When I boot (into console) I type startx and it automatically goes to XFce but how would I set it up so a menu appears giving me a choice between KDE, Gnome and XFce? There are times (rarely) when I want to go into another WM but don't want to lose the going into XFce.
