I think they've gotten LFS down to about 10 MBs or less

Yeah. Last I talked, the guy HighOS guy was saying they got it to 10mb but was just basically a kernel, sh, and stripped must have binaires ... not to usefull.

You could do a useful slack install (or debian too probably) in less than 64mb...

Really? I was only able to get it to about 250mb without X. Of course, I wanted gcc, perl, and other development stuff.

Just removing X isn't enough. There's tons of stuff you got to remove

'course, it's usually best to start making your own ultra-slim distro than it is to try and trim the crap out of an existing distro. ;D

I know that! :P Even sitting down going through custom installs it's hard to remove stuff. "hmmm, maybe I might need python support. What the heck is kaydee-ee?" I agree, if you want to have an ultra tiny system DIY, but it is still impressive that a commercial distrobution was able to make a 64MB install. Mandrake is known for bloated installs ... maybe they are falling back to their older style (yay!).

Have they put that back into 8.2? I missed it in 8.1 (and it confused the hell out of me for a few mins ;D)
