1. bsetbg is part of blackbox, I guess.
2. Do you have gpm running? Sometimes that interferes with Xfree4.x Try to switch gpm off and see if that's any better
Alright, since I installed Debian, I've been toying with things, trying to get them to work. Now that I've tamed my daemons, upgraded my kernel, and other important things, I need some help with X windows.
I've essentially got it working (I'm in it now), but I have a few questions:
1. I need bsetbg. I wrote a couple python scripts that use it, and I don't know what package it's a part of. The program sets the look of the X root window (I use it to set the desktop image with my random desktop image script).
2. My mouse is rather quirky. I can't really explain it. In my XF86Config-4 file, the mouse section is identical to what it was with Mandrake. But every now and then, my mouse randomly jumps around the screen and randomly clicks buttons. It seems to be fine now, but it was giving me trouble before and I have no idea what the problem was... any ideas? I'll provide more details as I discover them.
Thanks all

Have you got Esetroot instead of bsetbg?
Does the same thing.
I thought so too, but I have all the blackbox packages installed (except bbppp, which is the blackbox ppp thing that I don't need because I'm on cable), and I don't have bsetbg. I'll poke around a bit more. I know that in Mandrake, Electronic Eyes is ee, but in Debian it's eeyes, so the binary could have changed it's name. I'll look for it.1. bsetbg is part of blackbox, I guess.
Yeah, I have that running. I'll look into that, thanks. I didn't have any problems with it in Mandrake, but I guess that doesn't mean much2. Do you have gpm running? Sometimes that interferes with Xfree4.x Try to switch gpm off and see if that's any better
popcorn: Not sure, I'll check when I get home. I'm kinda hoping to get bsetbg so that I don't have to edit my scripts at all![]()
Ok, looks like I have bsetbg, it just moved (the python script was using absolute locations of the programs).
So now it works, but only for setting colors, not images.
Here is the error message it gives me:
But I have never heard of qiv, and don't have it installed (`locate qiv` shows nothing).Code:bsetbg: error: tried to run 'qiv --root' for default argument, bsetbg: but couldn't find 'qiv' in the path! please fix the following bsetbg: line in /home/feztaa/.bsetbgrc to point to an existing application: bsetbg: DEFAULT="qiv --root"
I'd never heard of it either, but I've got in on my box.
It would apear to do the same thing as bsetbg or Esetroot.

Ok, I got a lot done today.
First, I killed gpm and now my mouse seems to work flawlessly in X (haven't tested it extensively, though). Now I just need to tinker with my mousewheel to get it working again.
Also, I got opera installed, but it's having wacky cookie problems (it doesn't accept cookies at all, even when I tell it to). I'm going to have to play with that, too.
And, what else did I do? I forget... oh yeah, I set up an rc.local for myself that starts my soundcard driver, that was nice... Also played with Afterstep, don't really like it. 8) Blackbox 8) all the way ;D
I'll check out that qiv thing, thanks popcorn. Not tonight, though, I'm exhausted.
