    Desktops, windows managers help define.

Hey all, running RH7.2 now and for some reason strange or not, I have never actually figured out the difference between
kde, gnome, ice, windowmaker, sawfish etc.

I would like to know because I have only a couple of options when booting up kde, gnome and some failsafe and default.

If I have ice, wm, sf installed why cant I use those?

Another question is why does the new version (Stock RH7.2) of gnome not allow for applications to be opened on seperate desktops.

For instance for appearance I run
TKSeti and LICQ on desktop 4
I run my MUD on Desktop 2
Under KDE when I am on desktop 1 or 3 none of these applications appear on the taskbar.
Under Gnome does not matter which desktop I am on they all appear to the right of the little desktop squares.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks
    Ras ???

in case you are asking - those are all differnet window mangers.

you can have new window managers be added by putting new files in /etc/X11/gdm/sessions i think...

not sure about the gnome question - i use fvwm
