installwatch -o logfile make install

that's it
u can replace make install with whatever the install command is

Do you recommend ftrace or installwatch? I downloaded ftrace last night. I am really interested in making it easier to get rid of software that I don't use/like, so this seems like a good deal to me. Of course, I want the best one.

i recommend installwatch because the logs are a bit more verbose. ftrace just gives u a list of files that were created but installwatch gives u a log of every file operation during the installation
