Did you get your new motherboard yet?
No I haven't. Thats the main thing I'm waiting for because I'd hate to compile my LFS system on this 450mhz K6-2. The MSI board I want is currently out of stock at Newegg but as soon as it gets in I'm gonna order it. Hopefully it doesn't take too long or I might just go for something else.

I should start over on LFS. I've learned a lot, and as a result there's a lot of junk on my system that I don't need and can't fathom trying to remove... easiest way would probably be to just start over

Plus I want to go try to automate the installation a little more, just to see if I can

Me too, only now I'm back in school so time is limited to studing and missing NGene. So GNU/LoveLinux 3.0 will have to do for now, I really want to play around with InstallWatch or something so I can get ride of the many gigabytes of source I have lying around.

I'm not so sure I want to start over anymore. I just got ogg working and I'm 'bout to do the KDE hint

I figure a good way to remove cruft is to make a directory called "deleteme" and then move any unknown stuff into it, if the computer functions fine without them, delete the folder. If something breaks, move it back

    mv /mnt/win/ /deleteme

hmm .. yep the computer works better now

    good way to uninstall:
use an app like installwatch or ftrace when u install programs. it will create clear logfiles of the files that were installed. removing something would simply mean that u would read the logfile, then simply remove the files and directories that are listed in the logfile

How do those programs work? Are they a patch for 'make' or something?

nah, they probably just watch what make install does, and logs it in a human readable format.

    installwatch -o logfile make install

    that's it
u can replace make install with whatever the install command is
