Going to install X 4.0.2 and KDE3

Right this is going to be a big thing for me, and as I have to pay for net usage when in Linux (nuts isn't it), I need to know all the niggly little things before I start. I have downloaded the three source files for X, the util source file and even the doctools file. I am using a Riva TNT2, but it uses a nVidia chipset so have got that file from their website. I just need to know is it a standard extract and compile, or will I need to edit config files etc, in any way. I am running Debian atm if you need to know.

I upgraded X on my Debian system, but using the binaries. It was really just a snap. I don't know har hard it will be to compile from source. It will certainly take you a while ...

It's a sunday, I've got nothing better to do. Everyone is either sick or sleeping around here, and as I am also sick, I think it is a good thing to do.

Do I need any others? I have got a really good NZ mirror so downloading them isn't a problem, also is Koffice any good?

I added these mirrors to my sources.list:

These have pretty much all the KDE 3.0.1 packages. AFAIK there is no update to Koffice.

I want to do it from source as I will possibly be installing LFS in the near future and want to learn a few things before I do.

I hadnt done that in a while. Recently I have done manual updates via the binary script. Flawless. Piece of cake. And beatiful.

I am having a few problems so I assume it is from missing libraries. Which will I need. I have got libz and libpng are there any others which are required?

Thats interesting... I really dont know what to say other than try to use the binary version first and then compile.
