    strange entry in /var/log/messages

    I just started to watch the messages file with a console on my desktop, and sometimes I get things like :

    Dec 3 20:16:41 Technetium -- MARK --

    what does that mean ?

    Some dude named MARK has h4x0r3d your box.


    No, actually it means that your log daemon is running. You should see a entry like that every 20 minutes or so, depending on your actual settings.
