Thread: Was my server attacked/hack attemted?

There doesn't need to be. GnuVince is young enough (AFAIK) to be protected by the Young Offenders Act (if not now, he was when he did it), which basically means he can do whatever the hell he wants, the maximum penalty being a slap on the wrist and no permanent record.

I wouldn't think that it would be a problem:
    1. The first thing the teacher showed us on Windows2000 was where the logs were, so that we could disable or delete them
    2. He absolutely hates UNIX. He wouldn't dare touch it with a 10 yard pole.
    3. When the sys admin showed him a bit of Windows 2000, he wanted to start with security. The teacher said: "Bah, I'm not interested in security". So the odds that we see him here are pretty low.

But if you guys are really worried, we could us all modify/delete our posts and talk about Asia Carrera.

This is in Quebec, right? Good, because I don't want to have anything to do with this guy

No wonder he hates Unix -- it's secure!

I don't know man, he used to repair typewriters... I guess that he thought that gives him the knowledge to operate and administer a whole network? Anyway, he's just the dumbest guy in the universe: he was trying to do a DHCP range from 192.168.77.230 to 192.168.77.255 !! He was wondering what was wrong. He also doesn't write 192.168.77.xxx, but 192.168.077.xxx. So when a student complained that he couldn't see his own web page, the teacher didn't know what was going on. A friend of mine and I suggested that he removes the leading zero from 77. Oddly enough it worked. The teacher said that it must be a bug because "You can put as many zeros as you want before the numbers"...

We were also considering subscribing his college email address to several porn mailing lists.

This is my absolute favorite way to get some petty revenge. Not that I condone this sort of thing...

With an unpatched IIS, this would've allowed the attacker to execute commands on your conmputer: a friend of mine and myself once deleted our networking teacher's (whom we hated more than Windows) hard drive using this weakness. So yeah, someone tried to attack you, but no, they didn't succeed.
    Sheesh, I didn't realize you were a cyber-terrorist...
