    Xfree86-4.2 mouse trouble

    Hi all

I was able to get X installed on my LFS-3.2 but
when I startx twm comes up and the pointer is in
    the center of the screen.

The trouble is when I move the mouse it jumps to the
top right corner and refuses to move. Other then when
I shake the mouse like a madman it will flicker a bit.

Seems like I read some posts awhile back that some others
    had trouble like this.

Thought I would ask for some advice before I recompile X

    Thanks for any help.

    Onewing.

what mouse type do you have, if its an ms explorer you could add the following under your pointer section in XF86Config

    Code:
    Section "InputDevice"

    # Identifier and driver

      Identifier "Mouse1"
      Driver "mouse"
      Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2"
      Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
      Option "Buttons" "7"
      Option "ZAxisMapping" "6 7"

    ...
and then you can remap your buttons with :

    Code:
    xmodmap -e "pointer = 1 2 3 6 7 4 5"
.. this would be the procedure if you had a ms exporer mouse ..

    Thanks ch-b

What I have is a Logitech wheel mouse.
The thing is my XF86Config in LFS is the same
as on the host system (Slack 8) and all is well
in Slack. I did try booting LFS using a generic
ps2 two button mouse and I get the same thing.

I dont use the wheel feature in Slack.

    Identifier "Mouse1"
    Driver "mouse"
    Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
    Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
    # link mouse device to /dev/mouse, if using USB you need to do some tricks
    Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

    Thanks Love

I will give that a try.

I have some honey do jobs and I'll give it a spin
    when I get back.

honey do = "honey do this...
    honey do that."

Make sure that when you run XF86Config, that you don't select MS mouse (option 1, I think). Use the ps2 option (option 4, I think). I had the same problem recently and that is how I fixed the problem.

I'm back on the case now

See that's the thing, I did set it to #4
in xf86config. I'll give Loves post a try and post back.
