yep, maybe its better to use higher languages for utilities and such, but the disadvantage would be that languages like perl, java etc are much slower than C ..

It sure is a shame that your dual Athlon XP 2Ghz takes a couple of additional cycles to assure safety. Also, Python programs and company can be developped much faster

And if you are not willing to give up speed of execution, www.ocaml.org

k .. but if you think of linux one of its good sides is that it runs also very fast on an i286 or embedded devices, so maybe its good for home hardware but not for other jobs ..
