redhat console jiberish

I'm in x for a few days then I kill it and I'm down to console, but hte console is complete jiberish. So I copy the jiberish into vim and close it. But when I logout and log back in so everything is normal and readable the jiberish I copied now looks like this.(before the characters weren't regular)

anyways this has happened twice in having rh 7.3 since its release. I also haven't found anything in bugzilla but I could have easily missed it. So I just wondered if anyone has experienced this or knows what could be causing it.
