Linux Virus Scan for NT Network?

We have an NT Domain using Exchange 5.5 (and such fun, too) for around 500 users. Our operation is highly dependent on email (the Homepage thing knocked us out for 24 hours, such was the volume of mail generated from our rather large address book). We use Trend Anti-Virus, but want to have a back up should anything get through. We're looking at a product that searches users mailboxes for known viruses. Is there a Linux product, open source or proprietry, that fits this bill?

There are anitvirus programs that check incoming mail, but that would assume that your mail server is a Linux box. Why not just get a machine that can run a minimal copy of Win2k and a good antivirus product like Norton's, and have it map a drive to your NT server and have it do the scanning?

(yes, it isn't a linux solution, but sometimes you just need to use the best tool for a job). Put a gigabit nic in both the server and the scan machine, have them on their own private network, and you should be good to go.

Cos we just got a $12000(Australian) quote for the licenses we need for Norton AV.

Trend generally does the trick, but we were looking to back it up relatively cheaply. 12K aint cheap.

We just got a qoute (education price) for 100 clients for 2 years TVD £2200 which is a little steep to come out of the loose change that is my buget, then we found out as one of the hidden bonuses of another deal, we could get Sophos for 5yrs, unlimited clients & servers for....(drum roll please) ........£5.

Actually, you'd only need 1 copy of the Norton program, since it would only run on one machine, scanning a network drive.

Have you looked into Norton CE? Again, this is not a linux solution, but its a very easy way to cetralize managment of viruses over a LAN or enterprise (you would need dedicated anti-virus server that would sweep the entire enterprise, distuibute updates, send alerts and move files to a central quarenteen, etc.) Is this what you got the quote for? If not, look into it. It is a very good product if you have trouble managing viruses on your network (I work in a school and we get wacked with viruses all day long). The product suite also comes with an antivirus product for firewalls, groupware and gateways. It will also run on Solaris, but not flavors of linux. Its not free or cheap, but have to weigh its costs against the cost of downtime, data loss and manhours.
