    Strange SSH happenings

This ones got me a little confused. *I just rebuilt my server and this time decided to go with OpenSSH for various reasons. *Its up and running and works just fine but when I log in it gives me this. *
    Code:
    Last login: Sun Dec 16 12:44:19 2001 from 192.168.0.3 on pts/0
    Linux Athena 2.4.16 #1 Wed Dec 12 19:46:29 EST 2001 i686 unknown
    Last login: Sun Dec 16 13:10:18 2001 from 192.168.0.3
    Linux Athena 2.4.16 #1 Wed Dec 12 19:46:29 EST 2001 i686 unknown
I am not sure what to take from it. *It appears as though it logs me in on a terminal pts/0 and from my address 192.168.0.3. *I am using OpenSSH_3.0.1p1 (debian package) on the server and accessing it via the windows ssh client (yeah yeah,...i know). *Any ideas what it is doing or why its doing it?

    Re: Strange SSH happenings

Every ssh login will be assigned a pts*, not tty like normal login.

    Re: Strange SSH happenings

Is it normal to see both of those messages printed? *Either they didnt do it before (with the commercial SSHD) or I just never saw it. And why is it that they occur at different times?

hmm, don't know, havn't had time to try 3.0-
perhaps it gives a more informative info on when you last loged in..
Have you confirmed with `last`, that these timestamps are infact correct logins ?

    Re: Strange SSH happenings

I usually get those "last login from" messages when I login to my redhat boxen, either via ssh or locally on the box...

    Re: Strange SSH happenings

Last login is standard for every *nix I have touched. If the host sees the login of somebody it logs it.
