try to find one with a Lucent chipset - it looks like they support linux

Has anyone seen one of these? I am getting ADSL in a week or two, but the external modem supplied comes in at $400 Australian. PCI modems seem a lot cheaper ($200 - $300), but most of them, it seems, only run under Windows. I don't want a Windows box as my firewall![]()

if your getting a adsl modem you should only need a nic card not a pci modem.
if it's the same as the US? I have dsl modem and the regular phone line plugs into the modem and a ethernet cable goes from the modem to my nic card.
i never heard of a pci adsl modem
They sure do have pci adsl modems. You'll have to either check the
linux hardware lists or the *config section of the kernel source for the
exact cards that are supported. I might be compiling a new kernel in the
next couple of days, if so I'll make note of the cards supported (modules
anyway).
Hope this helps (a little),
