Okay, I seem to have been able to get around the crashing problem by shutting down my doze firewall. Now I get an 'Enter network password' box with the resource as \\mogg\IPC$ I don't want to access IPC though. I want to access the /media share on my linux pc. Also, what would the password be? I have specified only one password and username (With smbpasswd) but that password doesn't want to work.

boy this is quick!

on the linux box i do a smbadduser pbharrisbharris

then when logging in on the winodws box as pbharris it expects to get my linux password.

Problem was that my usernames didn't match. Doze has the only user :James. So I had to add that to samba and then it worked.
