I am trying to connect win xp to Red Hat server.
Up till now my win xp sees the samba server but access is denied. I think it is somehow connected to the password encripted or not.
where can I get a step by step configuration instruction on how to do it ?
It takes me hours to do and I still can do it?

It should, as far as setting up Linux goes.
Another trick is to use SWAT (A GUI interface to configure SAMBA). Open a browser and type in this address: http://localhost:901
If you get an error message, check out this article, it tells you how to enable SWAT:
http://www.alphacentauri.demon.nl/li...eserver/samba/
As long as you have SAMBA 2.2.2 or later, it should work with Win2K as well as WinXP.
<edit> No MOD move this thread to Server forum?? </edit>
I am still trying to configure swat to work only the port 901 give me an answer that there is no access
The line in the services file is set
and I tried to add the line for the inedt.conf (I don't remember the exact name of the file but I fillowed the article for adding a line to start swat nodelay etc...)
and still I get the message the server refuse the connection
I feel that mabye swat is not insalled
or just not working
what to do? How to check if swat is installed?
Try to download and install it from here:
ftp://ftp.rpmfind.net/linux/PLD/curr...2.2-2.i386.rpm
I tried all the suggestions so far but they don't work
I have a linux version 7.0 with samba installed from a cd 2.0.(I think 2.0.7)
I tried to use the article that gives a big configuration file for samba but when I try to logon to the samba server from the xp
it logs as a guest/netbiosname
and no password is acceptable I tried nobody I tried the server root password I tried the user I added for the linux server or the user for the xp client... nothing
when I try to run smbclient on the linux mechine it gives an error such as SSL error and there is a line about socket options and there is an error about it that socket option is invalid.
what else??
I tried to run swat and added the lined to the services file and the inted.conf file (I hope I abbriviated right) but ther is a message that the server refuse the connection.
Does samba comed automatically with swat??
Do I need to install swat seperately??
what can you recomend ????
May be you miss my reply. Samba 2.0 do not work with WinXP or Win2K for that matter.I have a linux version 7.0 with samba installed from a cd 2.0.(I think 2.0.7).
No. Swat is a separate package. Swat is just a front end for to configure Samba. Install Swat from the CD.Does samba comed automatically with swat??
Do I need to install swat seperately??
Note: Still no MOD move this thread to Server forum?? This thread is not about security at all.. :-X![]()
