Calculation is somewhat right, but don't expect anything like those speeds. Mostly you will see up to 10MB/s across a switch, especially using TCP/IP due to the overhead.Hi,
Can someone explain to me how networking/broadband speeds work. If suppose I have 2 machines connected via 100Mbit switch.
if I use dimensional analysis and the ratio 8bits/byte
100x10^6 bits * 1 byte/8 bits = 12500000 bytes/second
That's 12.2Mbytes/second
Is this calculation right. How does T1-T3 and others fit into this?
Also, do any of you know of any forums where they discuss networking hardware? routers/switches and stuff??
thanx
T1 is 1.4something megabit/s and a T3 is 27 T1's I do believe.
