What version Linux is the best to use and is it free!

I have been looking at different websites here tring to figure out what would be the best solution for me, can someone tell me if its best to download a free version or buy it, what are they advantages if i buy it.

I need to be able to do the following:

    dhcp server
file server (windows boxs have to be able to file share with linux box)
webserver (iam currently using 2003 server IIS6
    ics.
    and remote file sharing (VPN)
    Terminal services

i have found lots of info on how to setup Linux up but... really how easy is it?

    Thank you for any help

If you have never set up a linkux box before I would suggest a simple distro to install. Mandrake was my first linux distro. It is easy to install. You can grab a copy here: http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/ftp.php3. There are other distros that I feel are much better but are harder to setup. If you want to really jump in to linux and build a system completely from scratch try either Gentoo (http://www.gentoo.org/) or Slackware (http://www.slackware.com/). I hope that helps a little.
