    cd burning

    Get used to me, I'll be asking a few questions.
    so
    RH7.2 and lite-on16102b cd burner. should burn at 16x but I can only get it to burn at 1-2x. Used various frontends to cd -record and various versions of cd record.
    scsi emulation is working. have the burner as slave on the 2nd ide chain with dvd as master.
    burns 16x on winblows, and this is one of the few things that keeps me from giving it up completely.
    oh kernel is 2.4.9-7 i think......
    anyone else have this prob, what was the solution?
    thanks in advance
    eric

    hello,
    do a cdrecord -scanbus - take note of what gets returned, here is mine:
    Code:
    [root@bugs root]# cdrecord -scanbus
    Cdrecord 1.10 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2001 Jörg Schilling
    Linux sg driver version: 3.1.20
    Using libscg version 'schily-0.5'
    scsibus0:
        0,0,0   0) 'ASUS  ' 'DVD-ROM E608  ' 'l.20' Removable CD-ROM
        0,1,0   1) 'IDE-CD ' 'R/RW 4x4x24   ' '1.04' Removable CD-ROM
        0,2,0   2) *
        0,3,0   3) *
        0,4,0   4) *
        0,5,0   5) *
        0,6,0   6) *
        0,7,0   7) *
    then try
    cdrecord -speed=16 -dev=0,?,0 /path/to/image.iso

    i did a
    cdrecord -speed=4 -dev=0,1,0 /backup/enigma-i386-disc1.iso

    how does that work?

    Re: cd burning

    You said,

    scsi emulation is working. *have the burner as slave on the 2nd ide chain with dvd as master.
    And then you have,

    with scsi scanbus i get
    scsi bus 0:
    * * * 0,0,0 * *0) *'lite on' *'LTR-16102B * * * * *'osob' *\ Removable cd rom
    According to PB's example, shouldn't you have two devices listed?? And shouldn't it be something like 0,1,0 ?? Just an idea....

    Re: cd burning

    that would be true if he were using scsi emulation for the DVD and the burner. if ericn has emuation set up for just one drive the there should be 0,0,0 ...

    check your /etc/lilo.conf or /boot/grub/grub.conf to see which drives are set up for scsi emulation.

    Re: cd burning

    My /boot/grub/menu.lst looks like this...

    timeout = 10
    splashscreen = (hd0,4)/boot/message.col31

    default = 0

    title = Linux-2.4.16-Modular
    root = (hd0,4)
    kernel = /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.16-modular hdd=ide-scsi idebus=100 ide0=ata66 vga=normal quiet root=/dev/hda6
    initrd = /boot/initrd-2.4.16.gz

    title = Linux-2.4.13-Modular
    root = (hd0,4)
    kernel = /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.13-modular hdd=ide-scsi idebus=100 ide0=ata66 vga=normal quiet root=/dev/hda6
    initrd = /boot/initrd-2.4.13.gz

    title = Linux-2.4.2-Rescue
    root = (hd0,4)
    kernel = /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.2-rescue vga=274 quiet root=/dev/hda6
    initrd = /boot/initrd-2.4.2-rescue.gz

    My CDRW is device hdd.

    Re: cd burning

    allright here is a snippet of my grub boot.list

    kernek /vmlinuz-2.4.9-13 ro root=/dev/hde2 hdd=ide=scsi.
    so scsi emu is working as hdd is my burner.
    done some research and have found the problem may be the burner. others have had similar probs with the lite-on's. but i will continue to search for a fix.
    btw-why do you have that bit about ata 66 in your grub.conf. is that cause its a custom kernel? just curious.
    thanks
    eric
