Here is the config of ntp server

/etc/ntp.conf

server 194.86.84.3
authenticate yes
keys /etc/ntp/keys
trusted key 34
request key 34
control key 34
---------------------------------------

/etc/ntp/keys

34 M D3456789 # (key I was given)

Well, that's it. Questions:
1. I was told that I'm required to use MD5 authentication - then why when I issue 'ntpdate -b 194.86.84.3' it works ? (It updates time on the system and doesn't ask for auth.
2. As to your experience - is the configuration I provided fine? (I have to configure ntp on linux to use md5)

thx.
