problem with modem

hi, i had installed a pctel modem in my system running redhat linux 9, after installing the drivers i am unable to connect it.

is there any way to find whether, i installed the driver correctly and is the exact one.

Also pls, let me know where to get the driver for sm56 modem( i have one and while i tried to install it in a fedora system, i got a error saying it is for an old kernel)
