PCI Parallel Cards

I need to add an extra Parallel port on my print server, but have been having a problem finding a parallel port card that is PCI. I found a 2 port card that is manufactured by StarTech.com but the install has been unsuccessful. Funny thing is they say the card is supported in Linux, but no luck. All of my older ISA cards didn't require any drivers and this card only came with windows drivers.

Has anyone out there used this card? How about any other pci parallel cards you can recomend. I need to use a pci card since the board has no ISA slots.

have you tried to contact the manufactor? i looked at a manual for one of the cards and linux is not mentioned.

what shows up when you do a cat /proc/pci and a cat /proc/ioports ?

I contacted the vendor and they said "the parport module needs to be 'architecture-dependantly' installed". In other words parport will not find lp1, lp2 on the card, you have to tell parport where the ports are located. The parport module installed now sees lp0 that is on the board. Currently I am just using the on board lpt port.

"/proc/pci" does see the card
Bus 2, device 13, function 0:

I/O at 0x5c00 [0x5c07].
I/O at 0x5800 [0x5807].
I/O at 0x5400 [0x5407].

I/O at 0x4c00 [0x4c07].
I/O at 0x4800 [0x480f].

"/proc/ioports" shows almost the same.
4800-480f : PCI device 9710:9815
4c00-4c07 : PCI device 9710:9815
5000-5007 : PCI device 9710:9815
5400-5407 : PCI device 9710:9815
5800-5807 : PCI device 9710:9815
5c00-5c07 : PCI device 9710:9815

All I have to figure out now is how to declare lp1and lp0 from the above info, using the parport_pc.o and parport.o modules. The card is coming out of the server tonight and going into my test box so I can play around with it. Any Suggestions?

hello,
if you are using redhat you can use printtool to set up the extra printers
i am *guessing* the addresses are at 0x4800 and 0x5400 - does that help at all?

Printtool will not set up the new ports though. Anyways, I can't stand using those gui tools, with the exception for bindconf and apacheconf. Still haven't had time to pull out that card. Let's hope I can to it before the end of the week. I was thinking they port addresses were 0x5c00 and 0x4c00, since there are two ports on the card. I guess I will find out soon enouph though.
