    floppy drive not recognized

Have not had any occasion to use my floppy in Linux but today decided to upload some pics onto my hard drive. No luck - could not get it mounted. Went thru the configuration process, still no luck. Checked all the connections - they were fine (had just used it in WIN98 about a month ago before taking WIN98 off). I type mount and it is not listed in the displayed names, insert the disk and then type mount /dev/fd0 and all I get is the message "unknown device." A check into hard drake says the same thing - no info about it at all. Any suggestions?

    hello,
what is in /etc/fstab and what was the disk formated as (e.g. ext2, fat32 )?
if it is msdos formated you cna use mtools if they are installed, do a mdir, mcopy, etc.
if ext2 (linux filesystem) formated then you can do a mount -t ext2 /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy - this is a normal floppy drive, not an ls120 right?

one more thing! make sure you have the module loaded for the floppy drive, in a terminal type modprobe floppy as root.

    Re: floppy drive not recognized

    okay - devfs it is.
do a modprobe -l | grep flop - also do a lsmod - if your floppy drive is part of the kernel )(i.e. not a module) then nothig will show up.

    also try a ls -l /dev/floppy/0

    Re: floppy drive not recognized

    do a modprobe -l | grep flop--
    nothing showed up

    ls -l /dev/floppy/0

    Showed brw-rw---- 1 skip floppy 2, 0 Feb 8 09:32 /dev/floppy/0

    ismod showed:

nothing about the floppy in the list

By the way before I forget - thanks you very much for all the time you have taken to help me on this! Skip

    Re: floppy drive not recognized

well this is freaking strange - it really sound like there is no floppy device support in your kernel, mtools do not need the floppy drive mounted to work and the device is present, the major and minor block numbers look good (the 2, 0 from the ls -l).

what version of mandrkae is this?
