I personally like Maxtor because their cheap ;-) However if your looking for speed I believe the Western Digital brand or the IBM brand might be a better choice.
Gentlemen:
I'm buying a 2nd HD so I can install Linux (SuSe Personal).
I want to use LInux and Windws in the same PC, in a dual boot mode.
I have Partition Magic 7.0 with Boot Magic to do that. You Linux user, what Brand and size HD do you recommend?
My system: Pentium 3, 800MHz MinitowerBase w/MMX technology. ATA 66 ControllerCard
384MB,SDRAM
30GB Utra ATA HD (7200rpm)
32MB NVIDIA TNT2 M64 Graphics
Thanks:
Elaiv

LOL...you obviously haven't met Oscar yet :PGentlemen:
You won't *need* PM nor Boot Magic. Most modern distros will allow you to partition/resize/repartition your hdd during installation, and LILO, the linux bootloader which will allow for multiple OS's, comes with them as well.I'm buying a 2nd HD so I can install Linux (SuSe Personal). I would recommend that you *at least* have a seperate partition for /home.
Get what you can afford, basically. I have a nice, thorough, working install(including apps) on less than 2 gigs on my laptop, though I have no intention of installing any huge games or anything like that. My main workstation is a WD 7200 rpm 40G.You Linux user, what Brand and size HD do you recommend?
I have heard of some folks having some trouble with controller cards like that, but I can't tell you anything from personal experience. My system: Pentium 3, 800MHz MinitowerBase w/MMX technology. ATA 66 ControllerCard

Also, be aware that you will need to download kernel-specific drivers for nvidea cards from nvidea's website. If you need help installing them, there's a OMP on that very subject here:

Good luck!![]()
