Parallel: you don't want to go there.
I have an Epson scanner works very well. Had it hooked up both on USB and Scsi, but Scsi is faster. Took me a little tweaking to get it running, but nothing I couldn't find in the Sane documentation.
Who has a scanner working in Linux? What brand? How easy/difficult was it to set up? Usb, Scsi or Parallel? I have 2 HPs that are not supported. In my local Frys ad, they have an Epson 1640 for $49 that is supported under SANE.

Do you happen to know what model it is?
lets see - I have a UMAX 1220U - USB interface only - works greta with lastest version of SANE.
I'm at work now and I have it at home. I'll post it when I get home.Do you happen to know what model it is?
Ok, it's an Epson Perfection 1640SU.
I bought the 1640. Works like a charm.

I got a Scanport SQ2400 SCSI (Thanks to Cloverm) working like in 5 mins.
probably one of the worst scanners i've ever used, but i do have an HP OfficeJet 710 (one of those printer/scanner/copier/fax combos) that scans just fine...well, considering what it is. easy as pie to use, but only if you already have one and don't want a real scanner.
