    DVD Software

    As some of you know my bro has a new laptop and I want to play some dvds in linux just for the fun of it what is a good dvd player for linux... From what I heard dvd playing has not been perfected I guess we are just guessing at the codec or something?

    I use xine. it's always worked very well for me. I go to freshrpms.net for redhat rpm's of it, or just go to thier sourceforge.net page.

    I've tried mplayer, but mplayer people don't seem to like redhat gcc, and they won't fix thier code to be complient to standards *shrug*. Still compiles, but it's slow as dog doo! (;

    RedHat gcc is version 2.96 afaik, that version isnt even a gcc release, maybe that why mplayer people dont want to fix their code.
    But i may be wrong

    Actuallly, you are right/wrong.

    gcc 2.96 is a patched version fo 2.5, which is more strict to gcc standards. There is absolutly nothing wrong with it, aside from the fact that it's more strict to sloppy code.

    Mplayer people refuse to clean up thier code, so it down't work well.
