For just word processing I use AbbyWord alot. Fast and easy. If I want a "full" office suite I use K-Office. Not quite as fast as Abby, but a heck of a lot better than StarOffice or OpenOffice for me.

I tried Koffice once... I tried to make a table, then I saved the document and when I opened it again, the table was all gone and stuff. Does it still have that problem?
I might look into Abiword.
VIM+LaTeX
If that's too intimidating for you, check out TeXMacs.
And, if even that's too intimidating, then I would go with AbiWord.
don't count out OpenOffice. sure it's huge and bloated but it's very good. and if you have to be able to read/write Word documents then OpenOffice is the best
staroffice ;D
i dont know why so many people hate this program, it works very well for me.
Yes. Learn to use LaTeX and you be able to create top quality documents with ease.
It is no harder to learn than html.
If you must have a WYSIWYG thing, then Star Office is rock solid and feature rich. It imports and exports Word and Excel files with ease.

Heh, I've been meaning to look into LaTeX, but I forgot about it recently... I should look into it again. Could be a worthwhile thing to learn over christmas... Anybody have any good resources for it?
Now I just need to get my printer working...![]()
Yes. *Search for "The Not So Short Introduction to LaTeX." *It will tell you everything you need to know. *Don't worry, it's not that difficult. *Once you're used to it, it is MUCH easier than Microsoft Word, or any other conventional word processor. *You spend less time worrying about the quirks of your software, and more time worrying about the content of your document.Heh, I've been meaning to look into LaTeX, but I forgot about it recently...
