ATI + GL + Quake3

I got a ATI Rage Pro 128 32MB from a buddy for cheap. I slapped it into one of my boxes to upgrade the TNT1. Well, I even went a s far as reinstalling the OS, thinking that maybe some goofy driver issue between the fact nVIDIA wanted the Mesa GL stuff out. Well, other than the fact that the graphics stink, the speed is non existant.

Is there some trick to getting it to work right? I have DRI, GLX, and all of the Mesa GL stuff loading into X. X is fine, just none of the games.

I had that exact same card working with Quake 3 under slack with this XFree86 Config .... http://www.gnulinux.net/XF86Config

Unfortantly my newer ATI card doesn't seem to work with GLX or DRI :'(

Hmm, not really that different that mine. And the few changes that MAY apply, dont change that. I realized, though, that not all the rezzes were in the configuration I was using, so I added that. It seems like the mesa library isnt working. According to X11.org, having GLX and agpgart should work. But it isnt.

I am digging around right now trying to find out what I gotta do to test Mesa.

You could try one of the binary dri packages from http://dri.sourceforge.net/download.phtml this way i got my banshee working..

Ill have to try that. I really dont get why my GL is so borked. Its a fresh RH7.3 install. But, thanks. Ill give that a whirl when I get home from work.

Still a no-go. I have narrowed it down to being a definite DRI problem though. I cannot install the module due to a cmpxchg error. Somehow thats a unresolved symbol. Any ideas. Oh and BTW, the install script barfs out and I really cant follow the readme more to the letter other than replacing the X Server. but I cant see how that could fix this.
