    Problem compiling xine

    HiHo!

    I've downloade xine-lib 0.9.9 and xine-ui 0.9.9
With xine-lib everything went fine .... but the problems start at xine-ui:

./configure goes fine as far as I can tell. make seems to be ok too at first, but after some time I get lots of:

Imlib_types.h:1: X11/Xlib.h: No such file or directory
Imlib_types.h:2: X11/Xutil.h: No such file or directory
Imlib_types.h:3: X11/Xatom.h: No such file or directory
Imlib_types.h:4: X11/Xos.h: No such file or directory
Imlib_types.h:8: X11/extensions/shape.h: No such file or directory
    In file included from cache.c:4:
Imlib_private.h:21: X11/Xlib.h: No such file or directory

    and so on ....

then I get lots of parse errors:

    Imlib_types.h:73: parse error before `Pixmap'
Imlib_types.h:73: warning: no semicolon at end of struct or union
Imlib_types.h:74: warning: type defaults to `int' in declaration of `shape_mask'
Imlib_types.h:74: warning: data definition has no type or storage class
    Imlib_types.h:78: parse error before `}'
    Imlib_types.h:82: parse error before `Display'
Imlib_types.h:82: warning: no semicolon at end of struct or union
    Imlib_types.h:84: parse error before `root'
Imlib_types.h:84: warning: type defaults to `int' in declaration of `root'
Imlib_types.h:84: warning: data definition has no type or storage class

and last but not least lots of:

cache.c:19: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type
cache.c:19: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type
cache.c:19: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type
cache.c:20: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type
cache.c:21: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type
    cache.c: In function `dirty_images':
cache.c:33: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type
cache.c:33: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type
cache.c:33: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type
cache.c:33: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type

At the end I get Error 1 and as you can imagine xine doesn't work.

    What's the problem here?
As suggestet at the installation instruction I have /usr/local/bin/ in my $PATH and /usr/local/lib/ in my $LIBRARY_PATH

    Thnx in advance.

    Re: Problem compiling xine

    Hi!

On another linux board I found some guys who had the same problem.
Turns out, that xdevel wasn't installed by default at Suse 8.0 and that some libs were at the wrong place...now compiling goes fine...let's see if it works after compiliation.

    YEAHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IT WORKS!!! It really works!! I feel so happy now .... for you this would be a piece of cake but it took me many hours to fix every configure and compilation error.
So far it plays .mpg's .... I'll try divx and avi later - right now I'm too happy ;D

Now there are only a few things left on my to-do list until I can say windows good bye:

-) searching for a good ftp prog (multiple ftp sessions and session queue would be nice)
-) searching for a good IRC prog
-) installing linux on my old box and figure out how to configure it as a router/firewall

    Who? Me?

Just out of wild curiosity, what output plugin (I think that's what it's called) are you using? I installed it, but when I run it, it just says this:

    Code:
    $ xine
This is xine (X11 gui) - a free video player v0.9.9
    (c) 2000-2002 by G. Bartsch and the xine project team.
    Built with xine library 0.9.9 [Wed 22 May 2002 20:53:27]-[gcc version 2.95.3 20010315 (release)]-[Linux 2.4.18 i686].
Found xine library version: 0.9.9 (0.9.9).
    Display is not using Xinerama.
configfile: error - tried to update unknown key video.logo_file (to /opt/xine/share/xine/skins/xine_logo.zyuy2)
main: probing <Xv> video output plugin
video_out_xv: Xv extension is present but I couldn't find a usable yuv12 port.
Looks like your graphics hardware driver doesn't support Xv?!
    load_plugins: video output plugin /opt/xine/lib/xine/plugins/xineplug_vo_out_xv.so: init_video_out_plugin failed.
main: probing <SyncFB> video output plugin
video_out_syncfb: aborting. (unable to open device "/dev/syncfb")
    load_plugins: video output plugin /opt/xine/lib/xine/plugins/xineplug_vo_out_syncfb.so: init_video_out_plugin failed.
main: probing <OpenGL> video output plugin
    EXPERIMENTAL opengl output plugin
yuv2rgb: using MMX for colorspace transform
load_plugins: video output plugin OpenGL successfully loaded.
video_out_opengl: no OpenGL support available (glXChooseVisual)
videowin: output driver cannot select a working visual
And I haven't really had a chance to figure out what I need to install to make it work.

Now there are only a few things left on my to-do list until I can say windows good bye:

-) searching for a good ftp prog (multiple ftp sessions and session queue would be nice)
I rather like ncftp -- if you want a second ftp session, open a second terminal. If you want something GUI, try gFTP.

-) searching for a good IRC prog
I use irssi (console), I haven't found a decent GUI one.

-) installing linux on my old box and figure out how to configure it as a router/firewall
There's plenty of stuff on LDP that can help you with that. http://www.tldp.org/

    I'm using Xv ... it's the default I think.

    Code:
video_out_xv: using Xv port 85 from adaptor NV10 Video Overlay for hardware colorspace conversion and scaling.
I also had problems with plugins ... It said that it couldn't find any plugins installed, but my /usr/local/lib/xine/plugins was full of them.
I did a complete fresh install with ./configure, make, su, make install and now it works without a problem.
Somehow it didn't do my install good that I configured and compiled multiple times because of compilation errors and installing package dependencies.
Even make distclean didn't work .... I made it the hard way --> deleted the complete folder and extracted it again from tarball.

Btw: Somewhere I've read that xvinfo tests if Xv is up an running - if it gives you any output it's running I guess.

aw, does this mean I have to install the Nvidia drivers to get xine to work? crap. I'll read up on it when I get some time, might not be until wednesday.

Hey Feztaa, did you have to install nvidia's drivers for linux to get xine to run? Xine starts on my new box (1ghz duron with a tnt2 16m vid car) but quits immediately after. This was working on the 350mhz I had with the nvidia card, so I dont know exactly what to say other than it sucks not being able to watch my .avi files.

That's exactly what happens on my box, and what I posted above (in the 'code' block) is what xine spits out into the console just before it exits.

I still haven't had time to fool around with xine any. I think I'll install the nvidia drivers and see what happens...

    Black666--
IRC client-- XChat is the best!
FTP: gFTP sucks IMHO, try IglooFTP
Router/Firewall-- once you install on old box, not a problem
