    Debian doesn't install libraries properly

I am trying to compile bluefish and it tells me I don't have the gtk libraries installed. So I look in my /usr/lib dir and there they are. So I try it with --with-gtk-prefix=/usr then it says it can't find /usr/bin/gtk-config. So I have a look for this file and it doesn't exist on my system anywhere. But the stupid thing is that gtk works because xmms requires it and it works. I also have the same problem with glibc. I was running potato, but upgraded to woody in the hope that it would fix it. But it didn't and X doesn't work properly either.

Odd. Perhaps the programs that are having trouble are just looking for your libs in the wrong spot...

    Otherwise, I'm stumped.

Make sure you have the corresponding -dev package installed as well, else compiling it from source will fail.

Ah. I think I might try that. All my swearing was in vain it seems. I just need to fix X now.

Cp , for that gtk-config look in /opt/gnome/( i thinkit's lib ) if you have gnome installed , thats where i found mine, i just copied it to a library in my path, or you can make a symbolic link?

Try that , worked for me but i'm using slack 8.0

Thanks guys. It was the -dev packages that I had to get. But now it all works well and fine.
